NORTH VERNON, Ind. — The Jennings County School Board met for the first time since the beginning of summer break just under a month from the start of the 2024-25 school year. Students return on August 6.
Jennings County School Corporation (JCSC) Treasurer and Business Manager Philip Marsh gave the board an update on the high school’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) building project. Everything aside from the culinary section is on schedule for the start of the school year.
There is some concern regarding the flooring in the culinary room which is going to alter the progress somewhat. As of Thursday, Marsh was not able to give a precise estimate of how much this will delay them, but he is not too concerned about it interfering with the students.
Superintendent Nikki Johnson reported that JCSC was selected for a STEM Integration Grant worth over $73,000. JCSC was also selected for a Digital Learning Grant worth over $21,900 for virtual realty student materials for the middle school and STEM, and for a WHAS Crusade for Children grant worth $10,000 for the high school special education department.
