NORTH VERNON, Ind. — Gov. Mike Braun and the Indiana Department of Transportation today announced the award of more than $200 million in Community Crossings matching grants for local road and bridge projects across 245 Indiana cities, towns, and counties. Jennings and Jackson Counties will receive $1,500,000 and $1,487,424 respectively. The City of North Vernon will receive $1,468,391.15 and the City of Seymour will receive $1,500,000 of funding as well.
“Improving and maintaining roads and bridges at all levels is crucial for enhancing quality of life and public safety for Hoosiers,” said Gov. Braun. “Communities across the state need investment in their local infrastructure and we are pleased to partner with them to make necessary improvements.”
Communities submitted applications for funding during a highly competitive call for projects in January. Funding for Community Crossings comes from the state’s local road and bridge matching grant fund. Community Crossings has provided more than $2 billion for local road improvement projects since its inception in 2016.
State legislators identified long-term funding for Community Crossings as part of House Enrolled Act 1002, passed in 2017.
